About the airline
Founded in 1977, Air Seychelles (www.airseychelles.com) is the flag carrier of the Republic of Seychelles. The airline’s headquarters and primary air hub are situated at Seychelles International Airport on the island of Mahe. Employing around 650 full time staff members by as early as 2014, the airline is one of the key drivers of tourism in the country, thus functioning as one of its key economic pillars. During the same year, the airline reported annual revenues of USD 106.9 million, with a profit of USD 3.2 million. The airline is 60% owned by the Government of Seychelles, with Etihad Airways owning a 40% stake in the airline.
The latter was acquired during a 2012 deal valued at USD 45 million. The deal formed the basis of a strategic equity partnership between the two airlines. Since then, Fly Air Seychelles has upgraded its fleet, leveraged Etihad’s resources, and also tapped into the latter’s global flight network to maximize operational efficiencies and boost profits.
By June 2017, the airline was flying to around 38 regional and international destinations. It is renowned as one of the best airline liveries in the world, flying under the slogan “Flying The Creole Spirit”.
The airline also faces increased international competition from Ethiopian Airlines, who recently increased their flight frequency to the Seychelles as well.
